If you’re on an Eir broadband bundle with TV, the TV portion is rarely a bargain. Most Irish households pay €40 for the broadband and an extra €25-30 to bolt TV on. BingeBear has two one-off options: The Taster is €100 for 10 months, and The Owner is €300 for lifetime access. Neither plan renews automatically.

This post is the honest comparison. Eir TV is a real service, not a scam — but it’s an expensive way to get the same channels you’d get cheaper elsewhere.

What Eir TV is and what it costs

Eir TV is delivered through an Eir-branded Android TV box (the eir Vision box) plugged into your Eir fibre broadband. The 2026 tier breakdown:

  • Eir TV Basic — €20-25/mo on top of broadband. About 70 Irish + UK + entertainment channels.
  • Eir TV Sport — adds Sky Sports + TNT Sports for another €20-30/mo. Total €40-55/mo for TV alone.
  • Eir TV Plus — adds Sky Cinema for €15-20 more.

Bundled with the standard Eir fibre (€39.99/mo), a full Eir TV+Sport+Cinema household pays €90-110/mo.

Eir’s contract terms: typically 12 or 18 months, with exit fees if you cancel early.

What BingeBear is and what it costs

BingeBear has two one-off options: The Taster is €100 for 10 months, and The Owner is €300 for lifetime access. Neither plan renews automatically. For that:

  • All Irish (RTÉ, Virgin Media, TG4) and UK (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5) free-to-air
  • Sky Cinema (every channel)
  • 168,000+ films and box sets on demand
  • UFC and boxing PPVs included
  • Works on any Firestick, Smart TV, iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows — over any broadband (not just Eir)

Cancelling Eir TV while keeping the broadband

Eir does let you cancel the TV portion while staying on broadband. The process:

  1. Phone Eir customer service (1800 252 222 or via your MyEir account). Their online cancellation portal does not include TV.
  2. Tell them you want to remove the TV component, keep broadband only. Be specific — don’t say “cancel my account” or they may close everything.
  3. Be ready for the retention call. They’ll offer 6 months free or a one-off €100 credit. If you actually want to drop TV, just keep saying no.
  4. Get a confirmation reference and an effective date. Eir applies the change in the next billing cycle — 30 days notice typical.
  5. Return the eir Vision box when prompted. They send a returns label.

If your bundle contract is still inside the minimum term, the TV component itself usually doesn’t carry an exit fee — they may push back on this, but it’s the broadband+phone contract that’s usually the locked element. Hold the line.

For broader cancellation strategy: Drop Sky in 2026, step by step covers the same negotiation pattern.

Common questions

Can I keep Eir broadband and use BingeBear?

Yes. BingeBear runs on any broadband connection in Ireland — Eir, Vodafone, Three, Sky, Virgin, Imagine, even mobile broadband. You don’t need to switch broadband to swap your TV service.

Is the eir Vision box any good?

It’s a competent Android TV box. The hardware is fine; the channel selection on Eir TV is the limit. You can install other apps on it (Netflix, BBC iPlayer) but not third-party IPTV apps reliably.

Do I lose Sky Sports if I cancel Eir TV?

Only if Eir TV was where you watched them. BingeBear carries every Sky Sports channel, so the actual Sky Sports content is unaffected — you swap how you watch them, not whether you get them.

How long does the BingeBear setup take vs the eir Vision box?

About five minutes on any Firestick or Smart TV. The eir Vision box arrives by post, then needs an engineer-style activation. BingeBear is fully self-serve.

What if I have an Eir mobile bundle too?

The Eir mobile bundle is a separate contract. Cancelling Eir TV doesn’t affect Eir mobile or vice versa. They share a billing account but are billed line-by-line.
