• A Sony Smart TV running Google TV or Android TV (Sony Bravia from 2015 onwards).

• A Google account signed in on the telly (the same one you use for YouTube on the Sony).

• Wi-Fi or Ethernet on the telly with at least 25 Mbps for HD sport.

The setup in four small steps

• Open Google Play on the Sony and search for IBO Player Pro.

• Install the app.

• Open IBO Player Pro and photograph the first screen (MAC address and Device Key).

• Send the photo to our support agent on WhatsApp. They load your channel list. Restart the app, channels appear.

Sony Smart TVs: Google TV or Android TV?

Sony switched from Android TV to Google TV for its 2021 and newer Bravia models. They look slightly different but the install steps are identical: both use Google Play. To tell which you have, look at the home screen:

• Google TV (2021+): Big "For You" recommendations row across the top, Apps tab in the menu bar.

• Android TV (2015-2020): Apps row in the centre, a more traditional grid layout.

Either way, Google Play is on the home screen and IBO Player Pro is in there.

Step 1: Open Google Play on the Sony and search for IBO Player Pro

• Press the Home button on the Sony remote.

• Scroll down to Apps (Google TV) or across to the apps row (Android TV).

• Open the Google Play Store (the colourful triangle icon).

• Click the search icon (magnifying glass).

• Type IBO Player Pro (or use the voice search button on the Sony remote and say it out loud).

• IBO Player Pro appears in the results. Click it.

Step 2: Install IBO Player Pro

• Click Install.

• Google Play downloads and installs IBO Player Pro (about 30 seconds).

• Click Open when it finishes.

IBO Player Pro is now in your Sony's apps list, alongside Netflix and YouTube.

Step 3: Photograph the MAC address and Device Key

• The first screen shows: MAC address: a string like `00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX`.

• Device Key: 6 to 10 characters.

• Take a phone photo of the whole telly screen.

Sony also has two MAC addresses (Wi-Fi and Ethernet). Decide which connection you will use long-term before sending the photo. If you switch later, the MAC changes and the playlist needs to be re-loaded.

Step 4: Send the photo to our support agent

• WhatsApp the photo to our support agent. Tell them "Sony Bravia in the sitting room".

• They load your playlist on the IBO Player Pro provider portal against your Sony's MAC.

• Close IBO Player Pro fully and re-open it.

• Channel list, EPG, films and sport appear.

How IBO Player Pro activation works on Sony

7-day free trial. After that, a one-off device activation of around €7 to €10 paid to IBO Solutions via iboplayer.pro. Locked to the Sony's MAC, paid once, lasts forever on that telly.

Troubleshooting IPTV on Sony Smart TV

1. IBO Player Pro not appearing in Google Play search

Your Google account is not set to the right region. Settings then Accounts then Google then your account then change Service Country to Ireland or UK. Restart the Sony and re-search.

2. App installs but freezes on first launch

Older Sony Bravias (2015-2017) sometimes do this. Force-stop the app: Settings then Apps then See all apps then IBO Player Pro then Force stop, then Open again. If the freeze persists, try BOB Player from Google Play as the backup.

3. "Invalid MAC" after Step 4

One character wrong. Re-photograph and resend. Watch for `O` vs `0`.

4. Channels buffer on the Sony Wi-Fi

Sony Bravias have built-in 5 GHz Wi-Fi but some larger models (75-inch+) have weaker antennas. Plug the Sony into the router with Ethernet (most Bravias have an Ethernet port on the back). This solves 90% of buffering complaints.

5. Programme guide blank for the first hour

Normal. EPG takes 5 to 10 minutes the first time.

6. Google account locked you out

If Sony asks you to sign back into Google before opening Google Play, do it. Your IBO Player Pro activation is locked to the Sony's MAC, not to the Google account, so signing in changes nothing for IPTV.
